We have (23rd May 2008) received a message from one of our former leaders Bart Rentmeesters and now a further one (1st June 2008) from another former leader, Chris Lee.

It's really appreciated that they have taken the time to add the following to our website .....

 Dear Chris,

What a great initiative to create a website for Guilbert UK.

I only had the privilege to be our business leaders for a number of years.

We all should be proud of the company we have build together.

Teaming up, building a business,  with styles and attitudes  who were different, referring to OFREX an NICEDAY and having a FRENCH owner was not always easy.

But all of us made GUILBERT the most successful Contract stationery business  in the UK.

I hope that we as a leading team , Sandra, Chris, Sue, Richard, Janet and myself, have given you a fine business-time in life.

From my side I can tell you  I was tremendously  proud of what we achieved.

Mergers and acquisitions  happens in corporate life.

At the time we were building Guilbert in Europe, we even had plans  to acquire Boise in the U.S.

We took over their Mail-order business in Europe, and we had plans to become a world player.

Our shareholder, PPR in Paris, decided to get rid of B2B business,  we were sold to the world-players OD and Staples.

I know today our business has not survived very well.

The only thing I wish is that all the great people I had the opportunity  to work with in all our UK operations,  Sales, CS, Warehousing, Delivery, Marketing, have enjoyed their time with Guibert, and capitalize on their experience for building their future.

Proud to be part of Guilbert UK forever.

Bart Rentmeesters

Fantastic site guys - Forming Guilbert UK was the best time of my life.  The whole team across the UK were great people and a pleasure to work with.  We had done the hard work and its a great shame so many of us didn't get the opportunity to take the company to its full potential.  I would like to wish you all the best of luck in your future careers and personal lives ......

34915273[1]Message from Trevor Weldon - former Regional Sales Director .... (August 2009)

Hello Chris,

Fine Website indeed - Being in a fantastic organisation like Guilbert and being bought by Office Depot was bad enough but to then be bought by Banner when I had  joined the Board at AcessPlus was just ridiculous!

Couldn't bear to stay so I accepted a role to head up the Public Sector Channel for Paragon Europe (£180m turnover and 1,200 employees)

Trevor

(p.s. I now look like an old Alan Curbishley!)
